Scallop Hemmed shorts

Well I just finished my last final. OH how can I sum of my feelings for this semester. Angry, disappointed, and just sad. All negatives because i tend to study the wrong things for a final. I looked at the goals i had for my self form the beginning of the semester: recover from the horrible accidents of Organic chemistry. It lowered my GPA to a 2.6. My goal was to raise it to at least 3.0 and from there maintain a steady effort from there. MMmmm well it's over and summer is here now.

that means a whole lot of diy coming my way! My first diy completed on the first day of summer. Scallop hemmed shorts. I got the tutorial from this amazing site. What do you think? My boyfriend told me it looks like cake. I think they'll look better if i dye them. Maybe a blue or yellow. Something bright for my closet and summer nice-ness.

I don't know what's next on the list but probably something travel related.  Well that's all for now. Till next time.

Spring Break Excitment!

Being a student allows me to be overly excited for days that I DON'T have to suffer through school. Yay! Lots of crafty things scheduled for spring break! first of all I'm doing the famous wool-eater crochet along without actually participating in the crochet along. I just picked up the pattern from here. Beautiful pattern but requires A LOT more yarn per round than I previously thought. Guess I'll have to be on the look out for yarn.

Spring Break Dress #1 is officially finished! It's ta-DA  The multi-wrap/ infinity dress. Made from stretchy fabric from the LA fashion district. Maybe I'll just keep the fabrics a surprise so I can just reveal the garment instead. :P
The tutorial I used is this.
My goal is at least two dresses will be made this break. Because I have to face the reality that jeans although so very comfortable and practical are not so fun to wear. Whenever I wear a dress I just feel more feminine. And sometimes just feeling like a woman makes me feel powerful. Anyone agree?

Other none crafty goal is to read read read! read all the books that have piled up on my to-read list!

BTW a big and excited side note. Did you see HUNGER GAMES. It was magnificent. I loved it from start to finish and definitely should not be rated pg-13. I thought a little more gore was necessary and a higher rating even from the movie showing now. Well all done. Till next time, star-shine!

Sheer skirt!

I finally did it i made a sheer maxi skirt that i envied. From the fabric I bought at Downtown LA too. So this skirt probably only cost me less than 3 dollars :D doesn't that just make you smile.

I even added a small decency lining because I don't have WHITE booty shorts :P

I'll post the fabric soon. the lighting in my room is just horrible since it's going to rain soon. How gloomy :[

Sushi and LA

He he That title is kind of out of order. I just went for the first time to downtown LA fashion district. Most importantly the fabric district side. and I have got to tell you it was a mini heaven. Too bad we had a time limit to a reservation for a sushi joint.

We first visited Levine's "The Loft" Where they basically store their scrap fabric and sell them by the POUND. You heard me right. BY the POUND. for $2.50 per pound. And considering I have about 10 yards of fabric for 13 dollars I'm pretty sure it was a good buy all around. It was AMAZING. I will be sure to up load pic of the fabric haul.

Then after we stuffed ourselves at all you can eat sushi down at sakura ichi at downtown Pasadena. Ridiculous amount of food. we were starving when we came in and the verge of throwing up all the precious food by the time we were done. By the end we just had to walk a couple of laps around the track to feel better.

I'll visit the fabric district soon again when I run out of the great supplies I've found today.

For now here's a hat I've made in the morning. It was sized for a child but I guess the yarn was thick enough for my head also. That or I just have a tiny head. Pattern instructions here:http://vallieskids.blogspot.com/2009/06/olivias-butterfly.html

excuse the awkward hands in this photo. :P

Shoe Box Wall Art Tutorial

Picture heavy tutorial. it's very simple and pops with your personality.

First things first gather up your materials you'll need acrylic paint (59cents), left over shoe boxes, paint brushes, tape, and stencils for designs. If your shoe boxes have attached lids cut off the lid from the box. Clean the boxes free from any dirt before painting. Remember to paint in a ventilated area. Acrylic does not smell pleasant in stagnant air >_<

Next paint over the boxes with your base color. Painting on the inside of the boxes or lid is usually easier because of the absence of designs. But if you do chose to paint on the outside remember to add a second coat after the first has dried  to cover the designs.

Once the base coat is done drying add in your designs with wait time in the middle of the layers to be extra sure your designs don't smear. If you're doing a sky and cloud scene like me. (tips on painting clouds:) load the brush with paint and make a circle on the beginning of the cloud. scrub and sway your brush on the blob to create a cloud. never re dipping your brush just spreading the original over the background. It creates a create see through looks that is characteristic of clouds.

I chose the generic freed caged bird. Next choose the layout that you want on the floor.

Attach tape on the back and viola a wall art that pops off your walls.

New Year New Start

It's a new year and one of my resolutions is to blog more often. Just to find a new outlet to a stressful life. Have you ever felt that way? So stressed out you just need to do something? I craft when I've been thinking TOO much. A less painful solution usually follows if not i still have something pretty for my room. xP
now my first project this new years was not so inventive of me but happened when i started staring at my ugly plain white walls.
Next was a more inventive side of me. I painted over my left over shoe boxes for a wall art that popped. tutorial on the next post :]
